He locked eyes with the enemy and pulled out his sword. It felt heavier than ever and he grasped it with both hands and steadied himself. He walked forward as directed by the higher powers.
He brought the sword down onto the neck of his fallen foe. His forehead broke out into a sweat as he saw the body on the floor staining the stage.
The curtains came down on the scene and the audience stood up to applaud.
In one swift stroke of her brilliance, the stagehand took revenge on one of her villains, while framing the other in front of a live audience. By swapping the prop sword for an original, she had delivered true justice.

Good twist. Murder and mayhem.

Thanks for the compliments π Murder, yes. Mayhem, not yet π

Scary. Actors are so dependent on the backstage crew!

Too much dependency is dangerous indeed *shudders*
But then, isn’t too much freedom a peril too?

Good point. Hard to find a balance sometimes in this crazy world.

So… the audience was really watching the real thing. That’s crazy! Great story Karthi! I liked the surprise ending! Very nicely done. Thank you again for participating in FFfAW challenge!

I have thought that if I were an actor it would make me nervous when plunging in the “fake knife” that it might accidentally be real.

Don’t we all have the same fear? I wonder if there’s a phobia to that name.
How about killing-people-on-stage-o-phobia π ?

Sounds good. π

I’d be far away if I were the stage hand. Unless he wants to find out what the antagonist does with the real sword when he realises he’s been turned into a weapon… Good stuff π

You are right. But on my defense, I haven’t mentioned where the stagehand was π
And thanks for stopping to comment π

Little did he know he was actually killing a man with a real sword, not a fake one. Excellent piece, I liked it.

Well, it’s more like,
Little did he know that he was actually killing a man, not faking it.
But yeah, you get the drift, right?
Glad you like it:)

How cruel, awful, and terribly brilliant to have some unexpecting individual do his dirty work and stay to watch with glee! *shaking him* Great job with such a twist!

Well, I think you just described an evil mastermind. Moriarty maybe?
Thanks for the compliment π

I love how you foreshadowed the outcome subtly in the very first line.

Wow. Thanks for noticing. Felt that might be too much of a give-away at first π

That actor is going to feel dreadful when he finds out he’s killed someone! What a horrible position to put anyone in. That stagehand is rather insane. A great story, Karthi. π

Well, he did feel dreadful. Once he realized his mistake, his first reaction of nervousness was breaking into sweat.

I’ll add my voice to the chorus liking the twist ending! Now we know why his forehead broke out in sweat at the supposedly fake death. This is the second story other than my own that involves someone dying on stage — I’m picturing all our characters floating above stage in the afterlife wondering where it all went wrong, and missing their chance to take one last bow for their final, greatest death scene.

Hey. Thanks for the chorus. Wow – your gist is hooking. Give me the link to yours – want to check it out, after all great people think alike π
